How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are one of the most annoying pests that can breed in your home. Aside from delivering a nasty bite the mosquitoes carry chance to deliver deadly diseases like malaria, dengue, etc. Mosquitoes also breeds at a very rapid rate and to control this problem can be a very tiring job. They may also contaminate water and lay a huge amount of eggs in the water, especially in fresh and stagnant water. Some of the ways to get rid of mosquitoes are as follows:

Using Citronella repellents

Mosquitoes don’t like to roam around citronella odor. The best way to keep the mosquitoes away is to light a citronella candle that will give out the odor that repels the mosquitoes. The smoke from the candle would irritate the mosquitoes and keep them away from your home.

Mow your lawn/garden

The long grass and shrubs are the ideal breeding spots for the mosquitoes, and they will take shelter here and increase in number day by day. Mosquitoes like cool and dry places to take shelter and warm and wet places to breed. Longer grass can give that kind of atmosphere. For this reason, mowing the grass is a good idea to reduce mosquitoes breeding chances.

Neem oil and coconut oil

Neem is a great natural remedy for many problems, and recent research has proved that mixing the neem with coconut oil form into a very good mosquito repellent. When applied to the skin, this can fend off any incoming pests.

Using mint

When using Mint makes sure that you are not allergic to the strong smell of mint. If this is not the case, then mint is a very effective against the mosquitoes. Mint has a very strong smell that is not liked by them. Burning oil, planting mint near your home in your garden or using mint sprays to scent the rooms are some of the most effective ways.

Attract bats

A surprisingly mysterious method to get rid of mosquitoes from your backyard or garden would be to attract bats. If you have bats in your garden, then there would surely be fewer mosquitoes roaming around freely. Bats love to eat them, and they can hunt them easily.

Lavender oil

This is like a magical perfume that can keep the mosquitoes away from you. To make this body rub you simply needs to add 30 drops of lavender to 2 tbsp of cooking oil or preferably olive oil. This oil has no toxins or side effects to the skin. Instead, this oil is a great remedy for dry skin and a mosquito repellent at the same time.

Using dry ice

  • Plastic bottle
  • Cling wrap

Put the dry ice in the bottle and then put cling wrap on the top opening make sure to cut the bottle from the top to make the opening bigger. Make a hole with a pin in the cling wrap tied at the top of the bottle. The mosquitoes will go in the bottle, but will not be able to come out.

Mosquito Curtains

Mosquito curtains are specially made curtains that help to block the way of the mosquito. They can be hung at the door entrances and windows to avoid the entrance of mosquitoes to the room.

Good ventilation and fan

When trying to avoid mosquito bites during sleep, the best way is to have good cross ventilation in your room and run the fan at its max speed. This is making it harder for mosquitoes to fly around the room or sit in one place for a long time. To make this method more effective wear loose clothing and wear a blanket to keep you much safer from the mosquitoes during the sleep.

Keep gutters clean

Mosquitoes like to lay eggs and take shelter in gutters also. Make sure that the water in the gutter is not stagnant. Keep the gutters and water drainage system clean and maintained. Make sure that you check the time to time if the gutters have not clogged, and water is not collected in some part of the gutter. Using bleach or cleaners can be an effective strategy.

Chlorinating swimming pool

Swimming pool water is a good place for mosquito larva when the eggs that are laid in water are hatched. When the water is chlorinated then the mosquitoes also stay away, and the larvas also are unable to survive in the water. Chlorinating the water is also effective if the area you live in has a lot of rain. Then pouring chlorine in any stagnant water that is collected in the form of small ponds around your area is a good strategy too.

Avoid perfumes

Avoiding the use of excessive perfume is also an intelligent trick. Mosquitoes are attracted to the sweet smell and perfumes are like magnets that attract them. Avoiding perfumes will greatly help to reduce the number of the mosquito population to rise in the house. Since mosquitoes like fruity smell, they will readily be attracted to the smell of any perfume that gives off a natural fragrance of any fruit.

Mosquito screen

These screens are rather a very cost efficient method to keep them away from your precious sleeping time. Fix screen on your windows and fix one outside the door like a door to keep the pests out of the house easily.

Netting

When sleeping, you can keep the mosquitoes away by using netting as a shield against the flying mosquitoes. Netting is a cheap solution to the mosquito problem that is used by many people these days. Netting is usually the most useful when you need the babies and young age kids to sleep safely at night.

Using bug spray

There are various companies that have marketed the different types of sprays available that are easy to use. Spray the room thoroughly and then close the room for some time. About 30-40 minutes will do. When you reopen the room, then opens the fan at max speed and leave the room to vent out the toxic gases of the spray.
